Harley Street Health District and AlbionVC launch award as part of new partnership
Health tech startups with ‘strong evidence of impact or clear scalable potential’ are being invited to apply for the first-ever Harley Street HealthTech Pioneer award launched as part of a new partnership between the Harley Street Health District and venture capital firm AlbionVC.
This competition winner will receive a package of support aimed at helping them scale, including membership of the District’s health innovation hub, access to leading private providers such as Cleveland Clinic and The London Clinic and ‘fundraise-readiness’ mentorship from AlbionVC.
The award is being launched as the pair unveil a wider strategic partnership between the District and AlbionVC, the fund behind successful start-ups such as software development company Quantexa and European weight-related disease health tech company Oviva.
The partnership is designed to give AlbionVC-funded companies structured access to clinicians working across private providers in the District – which account for 40% (£798m) of London’s private healthcare activity – while offering those providers access to ‘pre-validated’ startups spanning all aspects of healthcare from prevention and diagnostics to treatment and ongoing management.
The collaboration aims to address what AlbionVC deputy managing partner Dr Andrew Elder describes as the perennial “hardest part” of growing health tech in the UK – “getting it into the hands of clinicians who can actually use it” – and subsequently co-develop, pilot, gather essential clinical evidence, and scale innovations in a real-world clinical setting.
Dr Elder adds that the partnership will connect proven tech start-ups “to the world-renowned expertise of Harley Street Health District” that will give them “the clinical application they need to prove their value and improve patient lives immediately”.
Although focused primarily on connecting health tech startups to private providers, it will also “aim to generate ripples of innovation that benefit the wider UK healthcare ecosystem, including the NHS,” according to the announcement published today.
Professor Jenny Shand, Healthcare Advisor for Harley Street Health District and Professor of Applied Health Research at UCL, said the deal will “enable a faster, more responsive era of care delivery”.
“London’s health innovation triangle – the combination of world-leading research and clinical excellence – gives us an unrivalled platform to turn ideas into real clinical impact,” she said.
“This partnership allows us to do that faster – to test what works, build evidence, and bring effective solutions into everyday care across both private services and the NHS” she added.
The deadline for entries to the Harley Street HealthTech Pioneer Award is January 12:00 PM GMT on Monday, 19 January 2026. More information and how to enter can be found here: https://form.typeform.com/to/gAXDWX6w
