The Royal Marsden Private Care has expanded its urology service to offer a comprehensive prostate assessment pathway in Chelsea and Cavendish Square, the provider has announced.
The enhanced prostate assessment service is designed to combine clinical expertise and advanced diagnostics to offer an ‘efficient assessment’ for people presenting with urinary symptoms or concerns related to prostate health, it said in a statement, adding the service offers a complete, end-to-end diagnostic pathway. In many cases, patients can have a consultation, diagnostic testing, imaging and a biopsy in a single day, if they choose.
The services offer an initial consultation and overview from a consultant urological surgeon, followed by an assessment led by specialist GPs and advanced nurse practitioners. This includes a comprehensive medical history, physical examination, urine and blood testing, and ultrasound imaging. If needed, patients can proceed to MRI scanning on the same day. If further investigation is required, a prostate biopsy can also be performed, either the same day or scheduled for a later date.
Prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, with more than 64,000 men diagnosed each year and around 1 in 8 men expected to develop the disease during their lifetime, according to data collated by Prostate Cancer UK.
The announcement also comes amid Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, with healthcare organisations and charities amplifying efforts to encourage earlier diagnosis and raise awareness of prostate cancer risk and symptoms.
Mr Walter Cazzaniga, Royal Marsden consultant urological surgeon, said: “What makes our service unique is the ability to bring together expert clinical review, advanced imaging and highly targeted biopsy in a single, co-ordinated pathway – often within the same day.“
“Another key differentiator is its holistic approach. Patients benefit from an evaluation of their overall health, not just their presenting symptoms.”
