A year ago, Hale House opened with a simple belief that HealthTech needed a home. To truly succeed, innovation needs proximity to clinical problems, access to the people who understand those problems, and a community where knowledge and connections can turn progress into real-world impact.
Twelve months on Hale House is now home to 352 HealthTech innovators and has welcomed more than 8,500 people through its doors. This ecosystem “density” matters because it removes the distance between an idea and the moment it becomes clinically deployed and can benefit patients.
The team has worked hard to make sure that companies that choose to put down roots in Hale House can move faster because the right expertise is nearby. Leading ambient scribe innovators Tandem Health chose Hale House as their UK HQ, while SökerData, secured a significant share of a £6.2m Innovate UK grant to build a biomarker database for faster, more precise drug discovery. Eolas Medical also raised $12m in Series A funding and launched Ask Eolas, its clinical AI answer engine. Others have hit regulatory milestones, expanded their teams, and built partnerships with experts and clinicians across the District..
Some of our proudest moments across the year have been through our partnerships and collaborations. The brilliant community team hosted and facilitated an impressive 26 partnership events and 95 community gatherings, bringing together close to 100 expert speakers. The formats ranged from Hash It Out panels to practical workshops with Startup Labs, as well as wellbeing sessions and community moments like Iftar and Valentine’s breakfasts.
Our collaboration with One HealthTech (OHT) brought 700 guests to Hale House alone, representing around 500 organisations. We were able to invest meaningfully in growing the accessibility fund, a brilliant OHT initiative that helps reduce barriers to participation such as childcare and travel costs. More recently, the Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN) has also chosen Hale House as its permanent home, creating a strong base for a community of 300+ organisations spanning startups, providers, investors and academia.
Conversations in the building reinforce UK’s huge ambition for HealthTech, but recognise the path to scale, evidence generation, adoption and commercialisation, is still the hardest part. With the ambition of bridging that gap we launched the Harley Street HealthTech Pioneer Award with AlbionVC. This paired recognition with high-impact support, including residency at Hale House and fundraise-readiness coaching, to curated provider introductions and wider ecosystem backing.
After more than 100 applications from exceptional startups across the UK and Europe, Signatur Biosciences was selected as the winner and will be joining us as a member and resident at Hale House. Clerkenwell Health, Joey, speek and Neurolase were also called out as ones to watch, for raising the bar in healthcare innovation as well.
And while the numbers go some way to telling the story, success is measured in many other ways; pilot programmes are initiated, introductions turn into partnerships, conversations turn into investments and commercial agreements, access to NHS decision-makers and commercial opportunities become more likely because trust and context already exist.
We’re excited to continue bringing together innovators, partners and providers and to tell more of these stories over the next twelve months.
