Harley Street Health District is recognised as a centre of medical excellence, with specialist cancer care forming a significant and growing share of activity across the area.
This is reflected in the recently published Harley Street Health District 2026 Impact Report which highlights the District’s continued evolution as a hub for healthcare innovation, collaboration and economic growth. As demand for specialist cancer services rises, the District is playing an increasingly important role in delivering advanced care for patients from across the UK and around the world.
Analysis of PHIN data undertaken for the Impact Report shows:
- +25% – growth in private chemotherapy activity in the District over the last year, with 17,865 chemotherapy treatments delivered
- 28% – share of all District activity now accounted for by cancer care, more than double the national private healthcare average of 12.3%
- 1 in 4 – private chemotherapy treatments delivered in the UK now take place within the District, making it one of the country’s leading centres for specialist oncology care
The emphasis on clinical excellence and research is fundamental to how cancer care is delivered here – reflected in interviews conducted by The Times with senior leaders across the District as part of the report launch.
Andrew Griffith of The Howard de Walden Estate – which manages the District’s 95 acres, including more than 300 private hospitals and clinics – pushed back on a common misconception: cosmetics make up less than 7% of activity, he noted, with clinical excellence the real focus, supported by 2,500 consultants and a growing volume of clinical trials and research based in the District.
Other provider highlights from the report:
- HCA Healthcare UK described how patients move rapidly through diagnostic and treatment pathways, backed by specialist oncology teams and research infrastructure that accelerates access to clinical trials and emerging therapies
- The Royal Marsden Private Care pointed to its specialist expertise and international reach, with patients travelling to Harley Street for leading consultants and streamlined services close to its NHS hospital in Chelsea
- The London Clinic highlighted rapid access to licensed medicines and investment in advanced diagnostics and lab facilities, enabling faster turnaround of complex cancer testing and treatment decisions
Together, these examples underline the District’s position as central to the UK’s private oncology landscape – where growing patient demand, specialist expertise and access to innovation are reshaping how cancer care is delivered.
As set out in the 2026 Impact Report, this reflects a wider shift towards more connected, multidisciplinary, innovation-led models of care, with the District continuing to support patients, providers and the development of new treatments.
