Harley Street Health District’s private healthcare footprint reaches £1.85bn

The Harley Street Health District is contributing an estimated £1.85bn to the UK’s private healthcare market once the complexity of its case mix is considered, according to a new impact analysis prepared for The Howard de Walden Estate.

The figure marks a substantial uplift from the roughly £1.5bn baseline derived from the District’s 11.2 % share of national private healthcare activity.

With 64,645 patient spells recorded across 27 sites between October 2024 and September 2025, the District represents a significant concentration of independent sector provision, particularly in central London.

However, the Impact Report sets out how headline activity alone understates the District’s true economic contribution. Using a casemix adjustment to reflect the high proportion of complex and specialist work raises the valuation by around 20%, taking the total to approximately £1.85bn.

This uplift is largely driven by the presence of major District-based providers such as HCA Healthcare UK, The London Clinic, and The Royal Marsden Private Care, which together account for around 65 % of local activity and typically deliver higher-value care, including oncology and complex surgery.

The new analysis reinforces the District’s position as a global hub for complex specialist services sitting within a concentrated market where innovation is aligned to complex pathways across the whole health spectrum, particularly within cancer care and surgical interventions.

The finding also underlines ongoing growth momentum, with District activity increasing by 10.2 % year on year, suggesting both rising demand and continued expansion of specialist services within the Harley Street Health District ecosystem.
