Aimee Di Marco FRCS PhD
Aimee is an endocrine surgeon at The London Clinic, working at the intersection of complex diagnostics and highly technical surgery. Based in the heart of the Harley Street Health District, she specialises in conditions affecting the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. These are areas where precision is critical and outcomes can have a profound impact on patients’ quality of life.
“The most important skill… is the ability to communicate,” she explains, reflecting on the balance required between surgical expertise and patient care. “To work as a team with all the people around [you] who allow you to deliver the best service.”
The London Clinic
The London Clinic is one of the UK’s leading independent hospitals, known for its breadth of specialist services and its integration within the wider Whole Health ecosystem.
This proximity to radiology, pathology, oncology and other disciplines enables a multidisciplinary approach. Aimee says that she sees this as essential to delivering the best outcomes.
Aimee’s impact in the District
Her work often centres on conditions that are both complex and personal. Thyroid and parathyroid surgery, for example, sits in close proximity to the nerves that control the voice.
“During the course of thyroid or parathyroid surgery… it can cause an effect on somebody’s voice,” she notes, highlighting the importance of evolving technologies such as nerve monitoring that help preserve function and improve patient safety.
What drives her is the way that the impact of her work can be seen almost immediately. “I can see somebody who feels unwell, and I can make a change to that,” she says. “Within a week or two after surgery they’re potentially transformed.”
Working in the District adds another dimension, in her view. “It brings together multiple medical specialties… colleagues… exceptional in their fields,” she reflects. “That combination is inspiring, fantastic and unique.”
