In the latest issue of the Marylebone Journal, healthcare innovation expert Aahuti Rai shares a compelling vision for transforming healthcare, not by layering new technologies onto outdated systems, but by rethinking the system itself from a ‘blank sheet of paper’.
Aahuti’s approach is rooted in systems thinking, which looks beyond clinical settings to the wider ecosystem of stakeholders. From pharma and private providers to retail and community organisations, she argues that while 80% of health outcomes are shaped by societal factors like loneliness and discrimination, most innovation still happens in the clinical space. This misalignment, she says, is where transformation must begin.
Her work champions inclusive design, sustainability and meaningful collaboration. Whether it’s developing mobile screening tools for breast cancer or reimagining mental health pathways using ambient AI and wearables, Aahuti emphasises that innovation must be built with real-world contexts in mind. That means understanding the daily pressures of clinicians, the lived experiences of patients and the broader systems that shape care delivery.
Hale House, located at 76 Portland Place, plays a key role in this vision. As part of the Harley Street Health District, Hale House offers dynamic co-working spaces and a collaborative environment for healthtech startups and innovators. Rai describes it as a place where bridges are built across the healthcare ecosystem, enabling partnerships that prioritise long-term impact over short-term gain.
